THE ROLE : The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes for gas meter assemblies. This position will interact daily in cross functional teams, facilitate problem solving, equipment troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions driving continuous improvements throughout manufacturing processes. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge

  • Development of how to optimize assembly and manufacturing processes through lean tools; operator balance, standard work and work instructions

  • Development of assembly and manufacturing process parameters

  • Development of preventative maintenance plans for manufacturing equipment under the guidance of OEMs

  • Compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards

  • Ability to train and instruct skilled personnel on the setup and operation of manufacturing equipment

  • Participate in part capability studies and equipment, fixturing or gaging Gage R&Rs

  • Participate in annual time study verifications back to routed standards

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.

  • Previous experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Plant Engineer or Mechanical Engineer in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Prior experience developing and managing projects in a manufacturing setting is preferred.

  • Knowledge and training in 5S, Lean/Six Sigma preferred.

  • Prior experience with automated assembly manufacturing processes preferred.

  • Previous experience and training with AutoCad or other design software is required.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with production, quality, engineering, and other departments to support manufacturing, quality and on-time delivery.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization both written and oral.

  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-motivated with ability to work with little or no supervision.

  • Some travel required.

DAY IN THE LIFE :

In this role, the working environment is both in office and on the manufacturing floor and the physical demands may include but not limited to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving about the facility as well as occasionally lifting up to 35 pounds.

The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
