Xylem Water Process Engineer in Lainate, Italy

Job Summary:

The Water Process Engineer is responsible for translating the product group vision into concrete solutions for customers, with the aim of recruiting our customers as ambassadors for the Xylem product groups. He/she will support the development of market opportunities through a large, strategic customers focus on solutions engineering; supporting also strategic sales plan for growth across Growth Center disciplines. He/she will be responsible for collecting and reporting market information for strategic and product development purposes. He/she will also work as a key resource for technical input and advanced troubleshooting activities, cooperating with the existing technical team and building a cross border collaboration with Xylem Commercial Team (CT) companies.

Essential duties/principal responsibilities:

  • Working with Business Development team, consult with existing customers and new prospects to identify solution needs, explore potential solution offerings and implement offering plans.

  • Gains the customer's trust by listening, being responsive to customer requests and issues, and demonstrating commitment to the customer’s success.

  • Have good contact and understanding of the technical difficulty the customers face.

  • Identifying needs and advising customers regarding solutions that are beyond their expectations.

  • Links new and existing product and service offerings to specific customer needs, creates compelling value propositions that differentiate from those of competitors.

  • Support the closing of agreements to build a relationship, a thorough explanation of product and service and to develop new applications and initiate.

Business Development:

  • Support Business Development Team to identify market potential and qualifying accounts.

  • Collection of strategic market information by tracking competitors' solutions and customer response. Present this including action to be taken to the team and management.

  • Identifying trends in the market, reporting the technical needs to the product group and translating strategy into action plans, supporting the business development team.

  • Training on the job for sales force and customers for project’ post execution.

  • focused on customer success, responds quickly to opportunities, and implements countermeasures when execution deviates from plan.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in process operations and technical as well as in relevant industry segments to keep up-to-date sales and technical professional knowledge.

Key Relationships:

  • Internal: Local CT, DIS, WTW, Product Team, CSA

  • External: Customers, Commercial Partners


  • Bachelor or Master degree in Environmental Engineering

  • Previous experiences in water treatment (design, commissioning, plant operation…)

  • Good understanding of the technical documents describing the treatment processes (PID, process specification, automat control loop, ...)

  • An innate passion to solve water on a planetary basis

  • Skills for innovation

  • Excellent command of English, spoken and written.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in data science, machine learning and genetic algorithm applied to wastewater process optimization

  • Energy efficiency

Travel requirement:

  • Must be able to periodically travel up to 50% of the time

Location: Saonara (VI) or Lainate (MI)
